What changed in the 2025 TaylorMade P790?

TaylorMade describes the 2025 P790 as an individually optimised hollow-body iron with a forged 4340M face, SpeedFoam Air and FLTD CG. The manufacturer says the face material is stronger than the previous generation and uses that strength to support a larger effective sweet spot. Those are manufacturer design claims, not a promise that every golfer will gain a particular distance.

FLTD CG means the centre of gravity changes progressively through the set. The long irons are designed around easier launch and speed, while the shorter irons move toward controlled flight and scoring. That matters because a seven-club iron set should not feel like seven copies of the same head. Each club has a different job.

TaylorMade also lists a thinner topline, an increased sole radius and a progressive leading edge. In practical terms, those details shape how the club looks at address and moves through the turf. Your delivery and course conditions still influence the result.

Is the P790 forgiving?

TaylorMade places the P790 between its game-improvement irons and more compact players irons. In its own P-Series comparison, the P790 is described as players distance with mid-high forgiveness, mid-high trajectory, mid workability and long distance.

That makes it more forgiving on paper than models built primarily for shot shaping, but it is not the company’s highest-forgiveness iron. A golfer who strikes the face inconsistently should compare it with a larger game-improvement head rather than buying from appearance alone.

The useful question is not simply, “Is it forgiving?” Ask, “Does it give me acceptable launch, carry and dispersion when I miss the centre?” That requires hitting shots or working with a qualified fitter where possible.

What is included in the Karibu 4–PW set?

The current Karibu listing includes 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 irons plus a pitching wedge. Manufacturer reference lofts for the 2025 model are 20°, 23°, 26.5°, 30°, 34°, 39° and 44° respectively.

A 4–PW set does not include an approach wedge or sand wedge. TaylorMade lists a 49° approach wedge in the wider P790 family, but it is not part of this seven-club Karibu set unless the listing explicitly says otherwise. Review your wedge setup after the 44° pitching wedge so there is no accidental distance gap.

If you struggle to launch a 4-iron, ask whether a hybrid should fill that part of the bag. Owning the full set does not obligate you to use every iron in every round.
